Each year,

1 in 7 HIV infections go
unnoticed

4 in 5 Hepatitis C infections go unnoticed

What is bedside testing?

Standard methods for determining viral infections require off-site laboratory testing, and this hinders our ability to identify cases with poor prognosis early enough for an effective treatment.

Late diagnoses makes up 43% of new HIV infections in the USA. In Australia, this number drops to 24%. In the UK, 33%, and in Canada, 39%.

We need a way of determining virus infection at the point of care: a bedside test.

point of care

(Adjective)
Performance of clinical laboratory testing at site of patient care rather than in a laboratory, and often by nonlaboratorians.
Synonym(s): bedside testing.

"A fast viral detection method is key in HIV and HPV, viral meningitis, herpes, hepatitis, and other viruses..."

Dr. Peter van Vuuren, Mildura Base Hospital

How does DNA origami help?

We aim to build a biosensor for viral infection that is more accessible and more rapid than lab tests

Our Solution

Amplify the viral DNA in the sample to detectable levels, then detect its presence using our switchable DNA devices.
